If you are not familiar with slashdot it has a *massive* geek centric readership - pretty much a large part of your target audience.
Well it looks like your intransigence and inability to communicate is now rippling across the internet.I dearly hope you take away from this that you need to actively discuss with your community not impose your will on it.
Please, please, please don't get so hung up on your own ideas that you can't accept that some of them are not good.
We as a community play this game more than you do, we understand it better than you do. Please stop dismissing us,

It's been a while since I recall relevance, but when it does, it goes to an extreme.
Things can only escalate from here...

3rd person action shooter? Really? So basically taking it away we're suddenly back to the pure essence of the game? 3rd person is entirely optional and utterly useless for combat, I haven't seen more than a dozen people using it for anything other than looking at their pretty mechs.
sell an item for real money that had a significant impact on gameplay
Such as? What? Gold ammo? High performance mechs? What? What 'item'? The author doesn't specify leading an intent to misslead. I haven't seen a single thing that was Pay2Win in this game yet and virtually all hero mechs are simple a re-arrangement of hardpoints. Even if you count consumables as so called Pay2Win they hardly make a big difference, packing all those coolant flushes don't flush enough heat to make a win assured. Hardly a scary sight. The only thing of value I can see in this article is the truth behind communication. Otherwise the article strikes me as a disgruntled crybaby throwing around baseless accusations. If you're going to critique a company and game you should do it right, not hide behind vague pretenses and assumptions.

nerds aren't the title audience, or else they'd be trying to make us battletech fans happy

Please re-read it carefully. CAREFULLY. The writer has fluffed it somewhat with rhetoric and (ok internal dictionary's abandoned me here so I'll improvise) (no wait it's back hooray!) hyperbole, but poking through the words shows that they're trying to stick to the events that transpired. That item for real world money thing was referring to the cool shot and air strike consumables, etc.
Furthermore, the game has been shifted to a third-person arcade shooter and now the community is rioting So you're wrong and your comprehension might need working on.

I love Slashdot , but I hate to see MWO being presented in a bad way on Slashdot. On the other hand, the Slashdot Article just hits the nails on the head.
PGI stop doing stuff the community , your player base or short - the guys who pay indirectly your income do NOT want.

Stop including me in your "we" there buckaroo. The Slashdot post linked is baseless and ridiculous. I'll let one response in the article thread speak for itself.
"I thought the article said a person could toggle between first and third person. Wasn't that always the case in the Mech games? At least I think I recall that in MechWarrior Mercenaries."
There's a guy just having a good time with a great game and is probably pretty dumbfounded by all of the stupidity oozing from these fetid wastes of writing skills they call articles.
And WE, the people who still have fun every time we play, and who weather the changes not with whining but with adapting, are not the ones for whom this minority of dozens speak.

You must be really enjoying it if you use words like "weather" to describe how you take to it.
And not everyone is fine with being blatantly lied to. If you can't understand why people are so upset over this then you have a serious lack of either memory or empathy.

So all in all i can not take it serious at all. I think i have seen re-tweets with more research in them.
Sadly this is the price of modern tech.. anyone with a keyboard and the ability to put together letters thing they are a journalist.
Not that it explains what went wrong with MW:O´s marketing dept... But two wrongs does not make one right

**** sounds like a pretty apt description for the amount you'd know about anything.

Common targets are public officials, politicians, and political candidates. Smear campaigns are often based on information gleaned from opposition research conducted by paid political consultants. To a lesser degree, the term can refer to an attempt to damage a private person's reputation; for example, during a trial, the opposing counsel may attempt to cast doubt on the reliability of a witness.
Smear campaign is related to propaganda, media bias, yellow journalism, and other falsehood-related terms such as libel and pejoration. In extreme cases, smear campaigns may lead to widespread persecution, such as in the case of the Dolchstoßlegende before WWII.

ie, we, the ??? crowd, didn't get the game we wanted, now we are going to make blogs, create articles on slashdot, and blackmail PGI to make the game we want, or else we will act as trolls across the internet to try to insure this game fails, because we don't really love mechwarrior, we are just sad losers who want to crush this IP, because no one wants to wait 10 more years for another mech game.
Yeah, I see whats going on here.
